In light of the issues as a result of the change of suppliers to the kiosks of pastry products, the Trust have been in contact from the onset of the problem, and, although the situation is still ongoing, we felt it appropriate to update its members regarding the result of these contacts made with the Club to date.
The problem first came to the attention of the Trust after the abandoned game against Bradford, as a result of which, unsold product provided by the new supplier, was taken to the Main Lounge. Doubt was expressed by the Trust that the product may not comply with labelling legislation applicable to such products, as the protective plain wrapping bore no ingredients decal, allergen information, or details of the manufacturer. As a result, we became involved with Club to investigate the situation to ensure that the product being sold did meet with the relevant legislation regarding those specific products.
After detailed discussions with the caterer operating the kiosks, and the manufacturer, it was determined that the products, packaged in its plain format, backed up by the full ingredient and allergen information being available on request at the kiosks, is fully compliant with current food regulations. Interestingly, at some other grounds, including Tranmere Rovers, pastry products are sold unwrapped, so the packaging provided at the Crown Oil Arena is merely to provide an additional hygiene benefit. The product previously provided by Claytons was in a format displaying all relevant information, but the current supplier has stated that their packaging displaying full information is for provision to retail outlets only, and is not oven proof, unlike Claytons where no problem with the detailed packaging was encountered when heated.
As far as the issues regarding quality of the product currently being provided are concerned, discussions continue between the Club and the caterer operating the kiosks, to resolve the situation, and the Trust will of course, update members when further information is available.
