Fylde Game and “Her Game Too” Initiative

A quick update on the “Her Game Too” (HGT) initiative, which you will have seen on the club’s website and social media elsewhere. This initiative is being facilitated by Rochdale’s AFC HGT ambassadors and the Club, with Monday’s game against Fylde designated as a HGT match.

With the sad news about Joey T’s passing last Thursday, the game will be an homage to Joey, one of our own, and a way for us to all come together.

From talking to Charlotte (Advocate For HGT) and Leanne (Ambassador for HGT) at Rochdale, I know that they had contemplated possibly deferring their involvement with the game.

Charlotte and Leanne have confirmed that HGT and the club have agreed to continue featuring and promoting HGT. We believe Joey T would have certainly appreciated and desired this, as his aim in recent years has been to help, motivate, and guide people to strive for success.

At DaleTrust, we fully support the HGT initiative, commend HGT, and thank the Club for their support in moving this forward.

Club HGT ambassador Leanne elaborated on what this would entail. The fixture will still proceed with the club’s support, but there will be a reduced level of engagement. It was deemed important to promote “Her Game Too;” however, it wouldn’t feel appropriate to engage in their usual manner, as that would not be disrespectful given the occasion.

There will still be a parade at half-time, but they have said it will be a walk around the ground with the Joe Thompson flag. There is great respect from the Trust for that, and we know the fan base will support it wholeheartedly.

Finally, Leanne explained that the club has acknowledged the importance of sorting out a proper fixture for next season. They have also said that the “Her Game Too” logo will still be on the scoreboard on Monday.

The Daletrust will not only support the HGT initiative on Monday but will also feature, during the coming weeks, ways in which we, the Trust and HGT, can work together and spread the HGT message to more people.

We hope that all fans will support the HGT team as they parade the ground with Joey T’s flag and that the HGT message is understood and appreciated. After all, as Dale fans, we always talk about being” One Of Us,” and that is what we all are, irrespective of gender. We are Dale fans first and supporters of the RAFC dream.
