It’s been a hectic time recently, which is probably an understatement with much so commentary focused on recent games but one extremely positive story we can report on is our Former Players Association Director Keith Hicks. Keith’s recent fund raiser, which involved him and his family, fully supported by the DaleTrust, raised over £2500 (figure to date) for cancer research.
Keith’s story was first published by the Trust HERE, where he outlined his intentions to run from the COA to the Oldham game with his family.

Bless him, his legs held out, Lol, and he and his lads made the trip. Here’s Keith on what happened
” We called it ‘3’Points vs Cancer’ It was four of us, Myself and Graham, we both played for Dale and worked at the Community Trust plus brother Dan and Grahams wife Collette, we said we would put our bodies on the line for the challenge.”
We aimed to raise funds for
Prostate Cancer https://prostatecanceruk.org/
To donate https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/3-points-vs-cancer-challenge-145926
And the Joey Thompson Cancer Appeal
https://www.gofundme.com/f/Team-Thompson-against-cancer-again
(The Trust has already raised over 3.5K this year for this appeal)
We can confirm that Hicksy and Co did complete the 7-mile run from Rochdale to Oldham Athletic.
They raised £845 in bucket collections from their efforts to Boundary Park, which brings the running total now to over £2,500 with the online contributions to the Prostate Cancer Appeal and Joe Thompson appeal (both of which can still receive donations using the links above).
.What a great achievement. On behalf of Keith and the lads, we thank all those who joined in and donated.
But the story is not over yet
SO, WHAT COMES NEXT?
Keith again: “The next steps are now to walk the 20 miles to Altrincham for the match on Good Friday, Friday 18th April, that’s the Day after the Curry Night as well so if anyone wants to exercise the previous evenings excesses away then contact me for more details on the walk start.
AND WE ROUND OFF WITH!
Keith again, “Legs permitting, I plan to cycle from AFC Fylde to Rochdale on Easter Monday, Monday 21st April, approximately 50 miles.”
Both these games will again feature bucket collections at the grounds, so for all traveling Daleys, get your free change ready.
However, if anyone wishes to donate online to either or both, please go to:
THE LINKS AGAIN TO DONATE
The Trust actively supports (Whilst his legs hold out!) Director Keith Hicks who is our Former Player Association organiser.
With the Trust already raising over 3.5 K this year for the Joey T Cancer appeal and with Keith’s £2.5 K to date for cancer charities as well, we are, as they (whoever they are) say, chuffed as mint balls that such a sum has been raised, so far that is! Keep your eyes on our website for future updates.
