On Friday 17/2 Trust board member Ian Wright attended a meeting with the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lucy Frazer, at the National Football Museum in Manchester.
The meeting also had representatives from Trusts from Blackpool, Oldham, Bury, Manchester United and 1874 Northwich FC. Also in attendance was Andy Walsh – Head of national game and community ownership of the FSA who convened the meeting.
The aim of the meeting was to convey to the SoS the importance of the implementation of the proposed White Paper of the Fan-led review.
The Trust reps who attended were picked because many had experienced bad situations that could have been avoided if the EFL and Premier League had acted diligently and properly. It was emphasised that we all believe the people running the EFL is incompetent and not fit for purpose.
I informed the SoS of the massive amount of work our members put in, into saving the club from the hostile takeover, but it shouldn’t have been down to us, and all the work and stress caused, could and should have been avoided had there been sufficient regulation.
We all also told her of the the unfairness of how the wealth of the PL is filtered down and requires change with more wealth apportioned to the EFL clubs and below.
The SoS, was constantly asking us questions and taking notes of what was being said and seemed to take a very genuine interest of each individual club, and gave us well over an hour of her time on a very busy schedule.
Only time will tell, but the meeting seemed to be a successful venture, so here’s hoping things get done.
