This Friday, Rochdale AFC will be celebrating it’s 100th anniversary of League Football by inviting back former Dale players for the game against Colchester United. The game is to be played on Friday 27th August, 7.45pm kick off, exactly 100 years since the first ever League fixture when Rochdale beat Accrington 6-3.
Presently 28 former players have confirmed they will attending the match to take part in a half time appearance on the pitch and hopefully, if enough time, a quick wander to the Stands to sign autographs plus make their way to the Main Lounge after the match, maybe present the man of the match award?
Also, on the night there will be a launch of the Former Players Association, which hopefully will see entertaining hospitality at Rochdale match days, Golf Days, Sportsman’s Dinners, Fans Forums, Re-union Dinners and many more activities that will offer the opportunity for former players to meet up again and chat about the good old days!!!!!
A website is to be set up plus the present Facebook page(Rochdale Former Players Association amended with articles including “Where are they now” Nostalgia time, Players Gallery, Memorable Matches Records, where supporters will be able to reminisce about Rochdale legends including Reg Jenkins(permission from Norma Jenkins) Dave Bayliss, Les Chapman, Steve Taylor, Shaun Reid, Steve Whitehall, Joe Thompson, Mark Stuart and many more.
