Ernie Cooksey Trophy

The Dale Trust are proud to announce that next week’s game between Dale and Oldham will see the two teams compete for the Ernie Cooksey Trophy.

The preseason game between Dale and Oldham has historically been the Rose Bowl, but this year the match will be played for the Ernie Cooksey Trophy. This comes following discussions earlier this month between the Dale Trust and Trust Oldham, with both Trusts agreeing to fund the new trophy.

When approached, Dale and Oldham were delighted with the idea and had no hesitation in agreeing to pay tribute to a much-missed player in this way.

Ernie sadly passed away in the Summer of 2008. He was treated for skin cancer in 2006 but suffered a reoccurrence two years later that lead to his death. He played a hundred games for Dale between 2004 and 2007 after signing from Oldham, for whom he had made 40 appearances. He proved to be extremely popular with both sets of supporters.

Should the match finish all square, the trophy will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

The game takes place at Boundary Park on Saturday 20th July with a 3pm kick off. Admission on the day is by cash only with Adults being £10, Concessions £5 and U18’s being £1.
