Football in the Community programme notes for the game with Barnsley.
Hi everybody for our second home game of 2018/9-hope you away fans from Barnsley have enjoyed the short trip to Rochdale and enjoy our hospitality but leave the Crown Oil Arena empty handed.
MASCOT-LOUIE DIGGLE
Louie Diggle is the lucky boy tonight leading out both teams prior to kick off.
He comes to most home games with his dad, Lee, who is a massive Dale fan.
Louie goes to St Vincents Primary School and plays football for Roach Dynamoes.
He will be really excited walking out with Ian Henderson, his favourite Dale player plus Callum Camps.
We all hope Louie has a fantastic time at the Crown Oil Arena watching Dale pick up three points.
BTEC SCHOLARSHIP IN SPORT PERFORMANCE & EXCELLENCE
An excellent reason to enrol onto our Scholarship can be explained by these two students who have been on the course recently before moving on in their career journeys.
Dan Lictata has accepted a USA scholarship at Northeast Community College in Nebraska after completing an apprenticeship here at the Community Sports Trust following on from the two year BTEC course with us jetting across two weeks ago to accompany Alex Wilcock another of our past students.
Before he left he had this to say
“I’m so glad I did the BTEC at Rochdale, I was 16 when I joined the course. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after school when Keith Hicks came to do a presentation on the course at Matthew Moss High SchooI. I didn’t know too much about Futsal, but I thought it was a bit different and looked interesting. I thought I’d give it a go and I haven’t regretted it. The education has helped me, as it has made me decide what I want to do. The course widened the options on what I wanted to learn, and it helped me go down the route of coaching. I’ve now got my FA Level “1” coaching badge, refereeing badges, an apprenticeship qualification plus my qualification from the BTEC course, where I earned the highest distinctions. I’m now going to study for a degree in Health, Sports & Recreation whilst playing for the College football team. I had to attend trials, where they made a short video of us individually, which they sent to the College, who saw it and were interested. I could get picked up over there to play professionally or I could continue onto University to complete a further two years of the Scholarship”
Lucy Pilling
Lucy Pilling has just completed the BTEC course and after attaining a triple star distinction decided against going to University to take up our offer of an apprenticeship with the Community Sports Trust.
Lucy comments
“I have really enjoyed this course because it has helped me develop as footballer and improve my
skill set. On the education side, it is a good mix of practical and theory and my favourite modules were Psychology and Anatomy. To get through this course I received a lot of support from the coaches in training and my tutor in the classroom who never gave up on me and pushed to me to achieve my goals. Because of this course I was able to discover the pathway that I want to progress onto resulting in me accepting an apprenticeship at Rochdale AFC
Read the poster to see more about the BTEC and come to the Community Sports Trust Office to enrol on Thursday 23rd or Friday 24th August
See you all again on Saturday when we entertain Walsall here at the Crown Oil Arena.
