PREMIER LEAGUE KICKS CUP

Mark and the Kicks squad enjoyed a good day out at the University of Manchester recently competing and socialising with teams representing Clubs from all over the country from different Leagues.

This national event is a celebration of the programme and brings young people from different cultures and backgrounds together. Clubs selected participants to represent them at this event based on their dedication and attitude at local Premier League Kicks sessions.

As part of the event all players took part in an educational workshop as well as having the opportunity to seek further education and careers advice.

In previous years players have improved their self-esteem by being included in the event and it has also helped improve behaviour and focus in the classroom by acting as a reward.

For the record, our results were:

Manchester United 0-3, Leeds United 0-0, Rotherham 0-2, Aston Villa 1-0, Barnet 0-1, Everton 1-1

KNOW THE SCORE

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month and players, managers and personalities from the world of professional football will be showing their support for the eighth annual Know the Score campaign. Know the Score sees clubs, charities and governing bodies, including the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) and League Managers Association (LMA) unite to raise awareness of bowel cancer signs and symptoms.

This year four ambassadors will officially support the campaign, Tom Heaton, Tony Pulis, Lucy Bronze & Osvaldo Ardiles

The main aim is to end the perception that bowel cancer only affects older people – in fact it affects men and women of any age and the key to successful treatment is early diagnosis.

• The campaign is the brainchild of former Millwall, Charlton and QPR goalkeeper Nicky Johns, whose son Stephen died of bowel cancer at the age of 26.

• As well as the PFA and LMA, it is being supported by Bowel Cancer UK, Beating Bowel Cancer, the Men’s Health Forum, The Bobby Moore Fund, the Adam Stansfield Foundation and the Mr Brightside Project (set up by Nicky in 2011).

• The 2018 campaign also marks eight years since the popular former Exeter, Yeovil and Hereford striker Adam Stansfield died from bowel cancer at the age of 31.

• Past and present England internationals including Jack Wilshere, James Milner, Les Ferdinand, Faye White, Martin Peters, Rachel Yankey, Karen Bardsley and Lianne Sanderson have previously backed the campaign, with managers such as Jose Mourinho, Sam Allardyce, Roberto Martinez and Mick McCarthy wearing the Star of Hope badge.

Bowel cancer is the UK’s fourth most common cancer, with over 41,200 new cases each year. It’s also the second biggest cancer killer but is treatable and curable especially if diagnosed early. Over 95% of bowel cancer patients will survive the disease for five years or more if diagnosed at the earliest stage.

.“Bowel cancer can affect anyone at any age so it’s really important everyone is aware of the symptoms as early as possible.”
