A group of supporters met on Wednesday evening at the Cemetery Hotel to look at initiatives and schemes that could be used to try and boost attendance at Spotland in both the short and long term.
The very loose agenda for the evening was as follows:
1. Survey Results
2. Use of social media to boost attendances
3. Publicising individual games
4. Attracting new supporters
5. Retention of supporters
As part of that, the following suggestions were made either on the night or submitted via email:
*Tracking of young supporters that attend games using free tickets with incentives for the junior teams / schools for doing so
* Development of partnership school where individual schools are identified as part of a long term targeting of potential supporters
* Possibility of schools being allowed to sell their allocation of free tickets and retain the proceeds to encourage schools to push the tickets
* Creation of a Fanzone within Spotland where fans / schools / junior clubs are encouraged to bring flags to the game and display them.
* The club to push for better use of the season ticket vouchers by asking season ticket holders to issue them to new / lapsed supporters rather than saving regular supporters a few quid on the night
* Earlier use of emails and a continued push to increase the number of supporters on the club database
* Ensure that updating of the fixture board is the last job to be done on the day of any home game
* Investigate the possibility of online ticketing being part of a wider initiative that would track match attendance and spending across the stadium
A meeting will be held at the club next week to discuss these proposals further and we will report back on that meeting on this website.
